But for educators, stress levels seem to be increasing at a worrying rate. A <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rwjf.org\/en\/library\/research\/2016\/07\/teacher-stress-and-health.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recent report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> backs up this concerning information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the study, <\/span><b>46% (almost half!) of teachers say they experience high stress on a daily basis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Plus, between 30 and 40 percent of teachers leave the profession within their first five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers feel worn out for many reasons. But chief among them is the worry that goes along with high-stakes testing. Teachers are driving themselves to the brink of madness with the pressure to deliver the \u201cright\u201d results on these tests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(And think about what this culture of testing is doing to our students. Kids should come to school thirsty to learn, with opportunities to work in their zones of genius. Instead, we place them on an assembly line, feed them an abundance of test-specific information, and send them on their way. That\u2019s a recipe for stress, not success!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I see teachers leave their classrooms every day feeling defeated. They stay late at night, they work on weekends. And it\u2019s just not making a difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Teachers aren\u2019t happy. Students aren\u2019t happy. And no one is succeeding.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But I see a solution to this problem. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Connection Between Happiness and Productivity<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the past 20 years, I\u2019ve dug into the research on the connection between happiness and productivity. And time and again, the research says that a positive, engaged brain is the greatest competitive advantage a business (or school) can have.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Companies across the country are recognizing this research, too. They are incorporating wellness and happiness programs. They are putting value on the mental health of their employees\u2014and they\u2019re seeing an increased competitive edge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schools are starting to adopt this practice, too. They\u2019re discovering that when their staff have the tools and techniques to increase their optimism levels and wellbeing, stress is reduced and better results are seen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bottom line: Everyone is happier, and it\u2019s reflected in the attitudes and successes of both teachers and students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, if you\u2019re one of the 46% of teachers experiencing high daily stress levels, it\u2019s time for an adjustment\u2014to reset yourself toward positive.
