{"id":18306,"date":"2017-06-15T01:51:34","date_gmt":"2017-06-15T05:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/strobeleducation.com\/?p=18306"},"modified":"2024-02-18T10:08:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-18T16:08:02","slug":"go-for-the-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/strobeleducation.com\/blog\/go-for-the-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Go for the Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Personal Renewal is a MUST for Teachers<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2011, I submitted a grant to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachercreativity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Creativity Fellowship Grant<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> committee. This is a program for Indiana teachers who want to be personally renewed outside of their profession. (Can you all give me a &#8220;Hallelujah!&#8221;?) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal of this grant is to recognize and renew our state\u2019s educators. It supports the fact that true learning is lifelong and encourages educators to pursue their dreams and passions, explore new areas of interest, and expand existing talents and develop new ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The grant committee poses a series of questions that I think all teachers should ask themselves from time to time:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where do your dreams and passions lie?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What adventures have you postponed?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is there a country or culture you\u2019ve always longed to explore?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you yearn for a spiritual journey?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What experience will help you broaden your students\u2019 horizons?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What inspires awe and wonder in you? <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The year I applied for this grant, I was completely stressed out from teaching. I certainly felt like I needed to be personally renewed, and things like swimming in Hawaii with the sea turtles, exploring Greece, and learning to horseback ride all sounded very appealing to me!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, I decided that I wanted to learn the practice of meditation. So, I started my grant by quoting the statistics surrounding teacher stress, teacher drop-out, etc., and then expanded on my proposal to not just study meditation, but also learn how to use it in the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And I was awarded the grant!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I spent 10 glorious days in Sedona, Arizona, doing amazingly wild and crazy things as I learned how to meditate, something I still practice daily. This was an experience of a lifetime and is perhaps a big reason why I now host Happiness Retreats and Live Events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applying for and receiving this grant was life-changing. To my Indiana teacher peeps: You NEED to apply for this grant (it\u2019s due September 1, 2017). To those located elsewhere: Do a little research and find out what kind of grants are available to teachers in your state. And to everyone: Always look for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">any<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> opportunity to pursue your passions and rediscover your happiness.
